§ 46-161. Streets, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.

  • (a)

    Street pavement. Street grades, pavement and curbs and gutters shall be in accordance with the standard specifications of the city. Pavement widths shall be 28 feet for local and marginal access streets, and 40 feet for collector streets and in commercial and industrial areas.

    (b)

    Curb and gutter, side ditches. Curbs and/or gutters or side ditches shall be constructed on each side of each street. Where side ditches are used they shall have side slopes not steeper than one on five (1:5). Where curbs and/or gutters are used, the curb shall be the standard adopted by the city. Where side ditches are used and where deemed necessary by the city council, the required right-of-way width may be greater than the minimum to accommodate adequate drainage structures.

    (c)

    Sidewalks. Sidewalks shall be required except in residential subdivisions with over 8,000 square feet of lot area per dwelling unit. They shall have a width of not less than four feet, a thickness of not less than four inches; shall be placed with the inside edge on the property line within the street right-of-way; and shall extend along all street frontage, including the side of corner lots and block ends; provided, however, that where it is impractical for the subdivider to provide such sidewalks on the side lot lines abutting major thoroughfares or drainage ditches, then in those instances sidewalks shall not be required.

    (d)

    Street signs and streetlights. Street signs and streetlights shall be installed in accordance with standards city specifications.
