§ 8-67. Adoption and destruction of unredeemed dogs and cats.

  • (a)

    The animal control officer will advertise unredeemed dogs or cats for adoption by posting an informal notice on the city hall front door for a period of not less than two working days. Impoundment fees may be waived for the adoption of any dogs or cats, provided that upon the adoption, the dogs or cats are vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian and a valid vaccination certificate is presented prior to the issuance of the dog or cat tag.

    (b)

    Any dog or cat not reclaimed by the owner may be humanely euthanized after being impounded for 72 hours, except that dog or cat wearing a current vaccination tag will be impounded for five days.
